💥 VISUAL: official render | Big... Handsome. Barret is a tall, broad-shouldered and muscular Black man. His usual clothing is a black tanktop beneath a brown vest, army green trousers, and heavy brown boots. He wears dogtags as well. Barret has short, dark cropped hair and brown eyes, with three diagonal scars underneath his right eye. He often wears ballistic glasses. Of note is that Barret is an amputee: his right arm has been replaced with a fully functional "gun-arm," which can be switched out for other weapons of its type. He is almost never seen without this, and typically will only change out his weaponry in relative privacy.
💥 DEMEANOUR: Brash, bold, and loud. Barret is opinionated, proud, stubborn and very dedicated. He is fond of, and skilled at, impassioned and rousing speech. Initial impressions will perhaps give the overall idea that he's intimidating — and he is — but he is rather empathetic and caring as well. His primary goal of attacking Shinra is not only out of anger and grief, but a stalwart and unwavering sense to see good in the world, and to make it a better place for his daughter. He is protective of all his comrades, including the former Shinra SOLDIER and current mercenary, Cloud, though he covers this up with customary bluster. Barret is well-versed in topics of environmentalism in relation to his own Planet, and out of the main cast, besides Red XIII/Nanaki and Aerith, seems to be the most knowledgeable in the history of the Ancients, or Cetra, the ancient civilization responsible for cultivating the Planet.
💥 SOUND: His Japanese VA is Masahiro Kobayashi. In the English version of FF7R, he is portrayed by John Eric Bentley. Barret is very emotive and can be gruff initially. However, he is also fond of making up songs, particularly when he is fired up about something, or running up many many flights of stairs. (Likely a habit picked up from parenting.), and has a sense of humor/levity as people get to know him better. He most often reminds me of a very passionate preacher when he speaks.
💥 SCENT: idk manly outdoorsy scent most days... they do a lot of traveling. When not on the round, he probably just smells like basic toiletries you can get out on the road. I imagine he switches it up a little and expands his collection as they travel. He seems like a guy that likes a good bubble bath if I'm real.

Info: Passionate, headstrong, and principled, first impressions of Barret leave individuals with the sense of someone who is no-nonsense, no bullshit, and no compromise. Having dealt personally with losing his village, his friends and family due to Shinra corporate greed, and most relevant, his own faith in the promise that Mako energy would make the lives of the people he loved easier — Barret’s inward loathing for this decision in his past drives his aggressive, unyielding, and outspoken opinions in the present. "Hold onto this," he tells Tifa, after the Sector 7 plate collapse, "this anger." Because to Barret, to linger overlong on the pain he and his group have caused prevent them from stopping the greater evil of Shinra. His acts of ecoterrorism stem from years of witnessing firsthand and being the victim of Shinra’s oligarchy, and finally coming to the conclusion that any act of change would not occur until he himself enacted it. His methods are seen as extreme even within the environmental terrorism group, Avalanche — as a result, by time the events of Final Fantasy VII Remake begin, his own group has splintered from the main one due to their use of dangerous explosives in the Mako reactors.

Despite his bluster and outward fury, Barret is sensitive, loyal and kind. He is completely dedicated to his daughter, Marlene, often talking about her even during highly tense missions, and as stated above, is erudite and has done a great deal of research on Planetology, including the religious philosophies of the Ancients.

Who does he vibe with? (pos & neg cr): Barret is loud, opinionated, and boisterous, with a strong sense of justice. More reserved characters work well as a foil to him, and he tends to get along well with similarly justice-minded folks. No cops though — anyone working for the service of greater power structures, those who disrespect the Planet or don't take Barret and his mission seriously will probably get on his bad side right away. Fellow parents of all stripes welcome for varying levels of cr depending on how good of a parent they are. Anyone who would feel brave enough to scold him for jumping the gun or overreacting are welcome too, or people who might challenge his idealism. I'm interested in exploring a variety of cr with him.
